Myrtle offers good country cooking at reasonable prices in Ardee

There are a few rough edges to be smoothed out but chef Jonathan Maltas is doing a solid job with the food at his chic eaterie in Louth

“You want to go to Ardee? Why would anyone go to Ardee?” a friend asks me incredulously when I tell him that I’m going to the Co Louth town. For him, a Cavan-born lad, it’s mainly a route to Dublin but my plans included a long lunch in Myrtle, a bistro from chef Jonathan Maltas that opened in May of this year.
