The region does produce some enticing varieties well worth a look, but you get what you pay for

Infamously immortalised as Hannibal Lecter’s vin de choix and the straw basket ‘fiasco’ bottles I remember from my parents, Chianti’s reputation has risen and dipped as much as the rolling Tuscan hills. For a long time, the market has been awash with low-quality expressions. However, while Chianti is not perhaps in the same category as Brunello or some Super Tuscans, there are plenty of enticing examples that warrant attention.
