To coincide with its 300th anniversary, Rémy Martin has released several special editions of its cognac - which would be perfect Christmas presents.

Founded in 1724, Rémy Martin is the only major luxury cognac house to have been created by a winemaker. Made using grapes from the most sought-after regions in Cognac, the area’s chalky soil results in wine high in acidity which when distilled gives floral, fruity and spiced aromas. These illustrious origins have helped the spirit to go from strength to strength in the interim and now, it is known as one of the best cognacs in the world.

Something that has been of particular benefit to through all these years is the fact that Rémy Martin is a brand that has always had one eye on the future and one on the past. Rémy Martin is steeped in history, but as the team celebrates 300 years, plans are being made to ensure the brand’s exceptional product and ethos continues for the next three centuries.

“The tricentenary is a culmination of everything we’ve done so far. We haven’t had to change much in the way that we make our cognac as it’s the initial vision of the house that guides, our mission is to express the personality of the fine Champagne cognac terroir, a little slice of the French land where we grow our grapes,” explains Jack Charlton, Rémy Martin brand ambassador. “We’ve been celebrating the craft and savoir faire, just letting the cognac speak for itself and just staying true to the journey at the heart of Rémy Martin, the legacy of those who made it before us.”

“Some of the cognacs that we’re making now, we’re never going to taste them; they’re going to be for the generations to come and it’s so humbling to think about that. It’s amazing to think that the previous generations over the past 300 years have worked so hard to protect the land and it’s all culminated in this incredible liquid that celebrates excellence.”

While the 300-year anniversary isn’t officially until 2024, Rémy Martin has kicked off the celebrations with a range of collectible anniversary editions, as well as a new take on the brand’s eponymous centaur logo. With its feet on the ground with a javelin aiming for the stars, the logo’s centaur appears as a constellation of stars. Featuring opulent gold and chalk white elements, the bright spirit of the design aims to connect the foundations of the brand with its dreams and ambitions for the next 300 years.

“Balancing heritage and innovation, modernity and tradition is key for us, for the house. The balance is so important and that’s why our emblem is a centaur with its feet on the ground and its head in the stars – it’s this kind of juxtaposition between remembering where you’ve come from, your history, heritage, terroir and legacy, while dreaming and thinking big about where you’re going. It’s a nice mantra, I think it sums up what we’ve done for the past 300 years and the next we want to have,” explains Charlton.

The Rémy Martin anniversary editions are limited and beautiful. The Rémy Martin XO 300th Anniversary Limited Edition features a reimagined version of its iconic decanter with a gold gift box and fan display. The Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal 300th Anniversary Limited Edition is a symbol of the brand’s history and its future. With a festive neck collar and an embellished celebration gift box, this unique blend commemorates the reward of excellence bestowed by King Louis XV of France in 1738. This cognac undergoes a long barrel toasting to give an extraordinarily smooth and distinctively oaky sip.

The Rémy Martin Tercet 300th Anniversary Limited Edition is ideal for collecting and Christmas gifting as it is the first ever Tercet limited edition. It includes a special neck collar and has been created by three talents – the cellar master, master distiller, and wine master – to take cognac in a bold new direction. Lastly, the Rémy Martin VSOP 300th Anniversary Limited Edition is perfect for celebrating the holidays thanks to its dark frosted bottle that has been amplified with an anniversary neck collar and an embossed gift box.

With its limited edition releases beginning a year of celebration, Rémy Martin is already looking towards creating a sustainable future. Since its inception, this exceptional cognac has been intimately linked with respect for the terroir and all of the individuals that sustain it. With a host of sustainable agriculture certifications already completed, the house is committed to adapting its practices to rise to the challenge of climate change by undertaking regenerative winegrowing, which promotes vine health in balance with all surrounding nature.

“We want to be as sustainable as possible, that’s how we ensure the next 300 years of Rémy Martin. We’re not a big faceless corporation, Rémy Martin is still family-owned, so we have this responsibility to enforce sustainability programmes that will help not just us, but also other houses too. We don’t want to gatekeep our technology or knowledge because we need a collaborative effort to make real change,” explains Jack Charlton. “Rémy Martin is a driving force for change and that starts, not just in packaging, reducing bottle weights, or using sustainable supply chains and logistical networks, but by making sure that we’re trailblazers in viticulture and winemaking. As we go forward, and continue to safeguard our 300-year legacy, we want to ensure Rémy Martin is at the forefront of both cognac-making and sustainable practices. Legacy and sustainability go hand in hand, so if we’re not sustainable, we won’t leave anything for future generations to carry on our vision. It’s very important to us.”
