For the last few weeks, our orchards, hedgerows and fruit farms have been bursting with life and activity. Apples, pears, blackberries, sloes, plums - a feast of Irish fruit is ready to be gobbled up fresh, cooked into preserves and, what has become even more commonplace, added or distilled into spirits.
