Unions have rejected business concerns around rising labour costs following goverment measures to improve working conditions.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (Ictu) have called for balance in the debate about the “modest” labour reforms introduced by the government, amid industry complaints about measures such as increases to the minimum wage and PRSI.

Owen Reidy, the general secretary of Ictu, said that in spite of record numbers of people in employment, those workers were still feeling the pinch.
