Tesco inferno: a week from hell for a ‘decadent dynasty’

Having reported a staggering £6.4 billion loss last week, the groceries giant must now rebuild for the future, writes Ben Griffiths in London

City analysts love a joke at a big company’s expense. All the more so when it’s one of Britain’s most successful and arrogant blue-chip firms that suddenly finds itself going through a rocky patch.

So the wag who came up with the label ‘Very Little Helps’ for Tesco – a play on the groceries giant’s long-running ‘Every Little Helps’ advertising campaign – gave the Square Mile a chuckle.
