NTMA move exposes 'rent or buy' dilemma for state agencies

Members of the Dáil’s Public Accounts committee like Independent TD Catherine Connolly want to question the Office of Public Works about the a ‘rent rather than buy’ policy when it comes to new headquarters for state agencies and departments

There was quite a reaction toour front page story about the National Treasury Management Agency’s new headquarters. In short, both it and Nama are going to spend up to €175 million renting a new headquarters that could have been bought for €164 million.

The state agencies had looked at buying a building, but were told that it was government policy to rent new headquarters instead of buying them.
