Westin owners back down from renaming hotel after noted slavery advocate

The move comes after it was highlighted the originally planned Westmoreland namesake had ties to slavery with the hotel now being renamed the College Green hotel

The plans to change the name of the Westin hotel in Dublin city centre to the Westmoreland have been abandoned, with hotel now to be renamed the College Green hotel.

The originally planned name was a nod to the street it is based on, but John Fane, Earl of Westmorland, the street’s namesake, was a noted slavery advocate. There have previously been calls in Dublin City Council for the street itself to be renamed as ...
