Hundreds of households saved from homelessness as result of local authority purchases

Local authorities have prevented 800 households from falling into homelessness this year by acquiring their homes as they faced eviction, the housing minister has said.

In a statement to the Oireachtas housing committee, Darragh O’Brien said that more than 1,000 more homes occupied by tenants facing eviction have gone sale agreed and are in the conveyancing process.
