The Oireachtas media committee will sit this evening for what is shaping to be yet another combative hearing on the RTÉ financial crisis with TDs and senators limbering up to grill Catherine Martin.

The session comes after a particularly bruising weekend for the media minister.

Confidence in her tenure has been has begun to wane in certain quarters following a week-long saga into exit packages for former RTÉ higher-ups, which featured a blockbuster Prime Time interview, the resignation of Siún Ní Raghallaigh, and conflicting accounts of what her department knew about a golden handshake gifted to the broadcaster’s former finance chief.
