Bank of Ireland to let independent expert examine bonuses amid staff unrest

Lender has said it’s happy to talk to an expert about its profit share scheme but that the bonuses are final and won’t be changed

Bank of Ireland staff have been disappointed by the terms of the lender’s first post-crash bonus scheme

Bank of Ireland will allow an independent expert to examine its first employee bonus scheme since the financial crash, amid disquiet among workers over the size of the payments.

In discussions with the Financial Services Union (FSU) over the last year, the lender said it was happy to talk to an “independent reward expert” about the details of its variable pay scheme, which has been reinstated this year for the first time since the financial crisis.
