Ireland needs ‘to kick its fossil fuel habit, as fast as possible’

To end our use of gas, oil, coal and peat, the country needs to focus more on renewables for heating and transport and speed up the development of offshore wind farms, says the SEAI

Wind energy: new onshore projects are often delayed in the plannig process, while the country lags behind when it comes to developing offshore wind

We delivered an all-time record of 680MW of new renewable electricity connections last year, but are lagging on development of offshore wind, said Jim Scheer, head of Data and Insights at SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland).

“This is now a priority that holds huge potential to propel us towards our 80 per cent renewable electricity target for 2030,” he said.
