Johnston Press group’s last Irish remnants are set for liquidation

Scottish group will have deficit of €116 million after once boasting a string of top regional titles; its 14 Irish papers were eventually sold to Iconic Newspapers for massive haircut of €9 million

The former press group that splurged hundreds of millions on buying Irish newspaper assets in the 2000s is set to liquidate this week with a deficit of €116 million.

Scottish group Johnston Press plc once boasted titles including the Leinster Leader, Donegal Democrat and Kilkenny People. All its former Irish titles are unaffected by this move, however, having been sold on.
