John Walsh: Businesses need to wake up to the governance challenges of AI and climate change

Backlash over Rishi Sunak’s green U-turn will be nothing compared to what companies will face if they don’t adapt to issues thrown up by AI and ESG guidelines

In the aftermath of the 2008 global financial crisis, bankers became a favoured target among politicians and the public. There was good reason for their newly reviled status: following a decade of excess, bankers had collapsed the economy and lumbered taxpayers with huge debts. There was an inevitable backlash.

Policymakers vowed that there would never be a repeat of the casino capitalism that had enveloped the financial system for much of the 1990s and noughties.
