I fear I’m destined to a retirement fuelled by beans on toast. I havea pension, but I don’t contribute as much as I should, despite understanding the tax benefits of doing so.

The loose plan – and one I’m sure many of you also aspire to – is that once more pressing financial commitments are sorted, I can direct my focus to boosting my pension pot. However, there’s a persistent temptation to always pushpension funding lower down the financial to-do list, with today’s financial needs almost always trumping tomorrow’s.
