Credit unions are considering the best way to make a play for the mortgage market.

Last month, Dublin-based St Raphael’s Garda credit union became the first credit union in Ireland to offer mortgages, with loans of up to €300,000 over a maximum term of 25 years.

A spokeswoman for St Raphael’s said its new mortgage offering has been “really well received” so far.
