ComReg slaps down Eir on discount broadband plan

Communications regulator warns of ‘clear anti-competitive effects’ should Eir’s proposal proceed

A plan by Eir to offer discounts to retailers for its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services “raises serious concerns under Competition Law,” ComReg has said.

This is not least because Eir would directly benefit as it has a dual role as both a wholesale supplier and is itself a retailer, the regulator said.

The Communications Regulator has told Eir that its proposed scheme should not be put into effect.
