Schemes lead 25 per cent rise in house completions

The 18,000 figure for new homes completed in 2018 is still well below the 35,000 a year economists believe is needed to meet demand

Official figures show that housing supply improved last year, with a big increase inthe number of housing schemes built.

The Central Statistics Office said 18,072 new dwellings were completed last year, an increase of 25 per cent from 2017. Just over 60 per cent of these (11,001) were in schemes, the highest proportion recorded in the statistics, which date back to 2011.
