Karl Deeter: The Airbnb malaise is a symptom, not a cause

Blaming the website for a lack of housing supply is like putting your fever down to your thermometer

If there is one topic people agonise about, but which qualifies in my book as more of a minor irritant, it’s the effect of Airbnb on housing supply.

The common logic is that people let out property, which then deprives tenants of housing and feeds into the housing crisis (which would have existed in spite of Airbnb being part of the marketplace).
