Understanding and predicting the referendum means finding ways to divine the intentions of those who see themselves as uniformed, and those who fall within a ‘spiral of silence’

The latest Red C poll indicates continuing strong support for marriage equality, with two-thirds of voters (67 per cent) saying they will vote Yes. This is, however, a drop from a year ago, when over three-quarters of voters were in favour.

More ominous for the Yes campaign, perhaps, is the fact that No voters have increased by 4 percentage points to 27 per cent, indicating that “don’t knows” appear to be deciding to vote ...
