Voting against the proposed amendments to the constitution on Friday would be a “retrograde step” that would reaffirm “sexist language”, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said.

The Fine Gael leader was speaking in Dublin ahead of two referendums to the constitution taking place later this week.

Varadkar also said there would be no guarantee that a future government would re-run the referendum vote if either amendment is rejected on Friday.
