‘Unequivocally good news’ - business groups react to new entrant into Irish banking space

Business groups have welcomed the prospect of a new bricks and mortar bank in Ireland, after the news that Spanish bank Bankinter is set to expand into the Irish market.

“It’s unequivocally good news,” said Neil McDonnell, chief executive of business lobby group Isme. He said the lack of competition in the Irish banking space at the moment was leaving businesses in a “very, very bad situation”.
