Shaking up the Dáil

The list in full: Proposed changes to existing constituencies

Electoral commission has recommended a slew of changes to electoral divisions and the creation of four additional constituencies

The long-awaited boundary review, published by the Electoral Commission on Wednesday morning, has recommended 174 TDs be elected to the next Dáil Éireann based on ballots from 43 constituencies - an increase on the current 160 TDs elected from 39 constituencies.

While many expected more drastic proposals from the commission, the recommendations are undoubtedly set to cause a stir in Leinster House and evoke concern in some TDs over movements in their voting base.

Below is the full list of recommended changes to constituencies, with proposed amendments highlighted in bold. An electoral division (ED) is currently defined by the CSO as “the smallest legally defined administrative areas in the state”. There are currently 3,440 legally defined EDs in the State.
