Taoiseach attends North Sea Summit amid calls for action on offshore energy

Leo Varadkar attended the event in the wake of calls from independent TD Denis Naughten and industry groups for more support for offshore wind energy

The Taoiseach attended the event after multiple calls for the government to invest directly in wind energy.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, and Eamon Ryan, the Minister for the Environment, both attended the North Sea Summit in Ostend, Belgium on Monday to engage in discussions with other international leaders on offshore renewable energy.

The attendance by Varadkar and Ryan followed multiple calls last week for the government to get more directly involved in the Irish offshore wind energy sector. Last week Denis Naughten, an independent TD and former environment minister, called for an equivalent of the IDA to be set up to address the sector.
