The search for a room temperature superconductor goes on as researchers have proven that LK99 does qualify as one - despite hope from scientists.
The substance rose to prominence at the start of August as multiple researchers, including Dubliner Sinéad Griffin in University of California Berkeley, supported initial findings by South Korean academics that the substance worked as a superconductor at room temperatures.
