RTÉ may be unable to let go of senior staff if exit payments are capped - Kevin Bakhurst
The RTÉ director general defended the use of exit packages and said that legal advice was clear that they must remain private
Kevin Bakhurst, the director general of RTÉ, has defended the use of confidentiality clauses in exit packages agreed with staff.
He said the use of these clauses and a potential cap on how much staff can be paid to leave the organisation is under review, but warned it will be complicated for the broadcaster to deviate from what is normal industry practice.
RTÉ has come under pressure from members of the Oireachtas public accounts and media committees to disclose the full details of exit package agreements made with top executives who have left the organisation.
