Ross to target penalty points legal loophole
Many drivers are failing to produce driving licences in court to escape penalty points
Transport minister Shane Ross is to close a loophole that had allowed drivers to avoid penalty points.
While drivers can be convicted of penalty point offences in the courts, they must produce their driving licences to have them recorded against their name in the National Vehicle and Driver File database.
But many drivers are deliberately failing to produce their driving licences in court so they can escape penalty points.
