Retained firefighters have agreed to pause plans for strikes by 24 hours after an intervention by the Labour Court, but are still threatening an “escalation” of their industrial action if talks on Monday do not yield a resolution.

The Labour Court today wrote to Siptu, the trade union that represents these firefighters, and to the Department of Housing to ask them to attend talks on Monday aimed at averting a planned strike starting at midnight ...
