New EU law holding firms to account on environment has been ‘filleted’ - Barry Andrews

The Irish MEP said the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive had been ‘watered down’ and would now apply to a negligible amount of companies

Barry Andrews, the Irish MEP, said: ‘They really just filleted the thing.’

An Irish MEP has criticised the watering down of new European legislation around corporate responsibility for the environment and human rights standards in their supply chains.

Barry Andrews, the Fianna Fáil MEP, was speaking to the Business Post after the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) failed to be passed by European member states as scheduled last week, even after multiple compromises saw the directive significantly watered down in recent weeks.

The CSDDD would force companies to demonstrate what action they are taking to protect the environment and human rights.
