New car registrations soar, but EV sales slow

February’s electric vehicle sales saw a 15 per cent drop from 2023, as industry warns there is ‘little hope’ of Ireland meeting its EV targets

There were 16,455 car registrations in February, an increase of 25 per cent compared to twelve months previously, according to new figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (Simi) today.

Despite the overall increase, electric vehicle (EV) sales fell 15.5 per cent, from 2,207 registrations in February 2023 to 1,866 last month.
