Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor has asked the head of the state’s corporate watchdog for a report on theissues arising from the trial of former Anglo Irish Bank boss Seán FitzPatrick.

FitzPatrick was formally acquitted today on multiple charges that he misled the bank's auditors EY (then Ernst & Young) about the extent of multi-million loans connected to him from 2002 to 2007. The trial lasted 127 days.

The direction to acquit came on Tuesday from Judge John Aylmer because of fundamental errors in the criminal investigation, led by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement (ODCE).
