Kenny defied officials to give Jadotville medals
Documents obtained under the Freedom of Information show that Kenny made his decision to grant medals to the men at his final cabinet meeting last June
Former taoiseach Enda Kenny went against official advice to grant medals to the 156 Irish soldiers who fought at the Siege of Jadotville in the Congo.
The troops had held out for five days against up to to 3,000 Congolese militia, tribesmen and foreign mercenaries, but were forced to surrender when their ammunition and water ran out.
