Google’s Irish bosses privately admitted that the company was oversubscribed in some teams with staff who wanted to quit voluntarily when it moved to cut 240 jobs earlier this year.

An internal document shows that management at the tech giant’s Irish operation said that in some areas, too many people would have sought redundancy under a voluntary scheme.

The Business Post previously revealed that workers at Google attempted to persuade the company not to institute compulsory layoffs during cuts in March – a proposal that was rejected by management.
