Emigration tops 60,000 for 2022 as immigration reaches 16-year high

More than 141,000 people arrived into Ireland last year - 42,000 of which came from Ukraine

Ireland has recorded its highest annual immigration rate for 16 years, with more than 141,000 people arriving in the country.

The numbers of those emigrating were also up, surpassing 60,000.

Around 42,000 of those coming to live in Ireland in the 12 months to April 2023 were Ukrainians fleeing the war, according to figures published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
