Competition watchdog extends probe into €23m Spar/Londis deal

The Competition Authority has extended its investigation into the acquisition by Spar owner BWG of Londis, seeking more information from both parties.

Retail group BWG has agreed to buy the trading business of ADM Londis for €23 million.

The deal’s closing will be postponed for several weeks until the authority has concluded its enquiries.

As well as the Spar and Eurospar franchises, BWG controls the XL and Mace brands here in Ireland.
