Bookies body: gambling industry should be forced to pay into addiction fund

Bookmakers who refuse to pay into a fund to deal with addiction should have their licences revoked, an industry body said.

Paddy Power Betfair and the Irish Bookmakers Association (IBA) said that, unlike Britain’s voluntary fund, the new Irish law should force bookies to pay.

The industry recently launched the Gambling Awareness Trust this year, but denied this was an attempt to show mandatory measures were not needed.
