Why everyone hates Ticketmaster – and why the company doesn’t care

For the ticketing giant, long accused of having ‘too much power’, the negative headlines might be seen as good publicity

If you were among those lambasting Ticketmaster during the great war for Taylor Swift tickets, or cursing it after melting your brain in Coldplay chaos, then Dr Michael Murphy has bad news for you: the company probably doesn’t care.

Murphy, a lecturer at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) on arts management and entrepreneurship, claims the whole fiasco was probably music to the ears of the ticket-selling giant.

“Here’s what I think,” Murphy told the Business Post, of the scramble for tickets to see Coldplay play Croke Park next August. “I think that last week was a great week for Coldplay, and it was a great week for Ticketmaster.
