It was, in his own words, “a kick in the teeth” that rank-and-file members of An Garda Síochána expressed no confidence in their commissioner, Drew Harris, by a majority of 99 per cent in mid-September.
For months, a row had been brewing over attempts by senior Garda management to implement new rostering timetables, ending the pandemic-era, four-days-on-four days-off roster which Harris said was only suitable for flat policing.
