Prized Irish authors Irish writers have always fared well in the Booker Prize competition, winning five times in 54 years. At least one Irish author has appeared in 16 of the last 20 years, and this year is no different. A record four Irish authors are on the 13-strong longlist. The final shortlist of six books will be announced on Thursday, followed by the overall winner on November 26.

Christina Hendricks the Mad Men star has been spotted around Dublin, where she enjoyed a theatre show and a meal in Trocadero restaurant. The American actor is in the country to shoot Sky series Small Town, Big Story in Roscommon, directed by Chris O’Dowd and starring Paddy Considine.
