Book review: Mike McCormack keeps it short and bleak in tense thriller
In This Plague of Souls, a whip-tight narrative often spills into poetry without ever losing its emotional heft
Mike McCormack’s fourth novel, his first since the multi-award winning Solar Bones, is also his shortest. While none of his books can be categorised as door-stops, This Plague of Souls weighs in at a scant 179 pages, but what it lacks in verbosity, it more than makes up for in emotional heft.
