Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar is considering a new road charge on foreign trucks in response to the forthcoming cross-border tolls on Irish lorries.

On April 1, the British government is introducing a charge of £1,000 (€1,201) for large trucks crossing the border into the North, in an attempt to benefit domestic hauliers.

Although such road tolls are permitted under EU rules, it has led to calls for retaliatory action, given that there are no such border levies...
