New car prices in Ireland are 30 per cent higher than average western European prices.

New car prices in Ireland are 30 per cent higher than average western European prices. A recent study by PricewaterhouseCoopers and Eurocarprice.com found that, in the 12-month run-up to the end of October 2004, new car prices in Ireland rose by an average of 2.3 per cent.

According to Robin Goodyer, operations director with Eurocarprice.com, vehicle registration tax (VRT) and other hefty tax charges levied by the Irish government are to blame.
