Pre-loved fashion gets art revamp in new Irish design collaboration

Louth-based artist and designer Caroline Duffy has joined forces with sustainability strategist and Irish Tatler contributor Pat Kane in an initiative that aims to give a new lease of life to pre-loved pieces

Caroline Duffy spent 20 years designing fashion prints for brands worldwide before launching her own label in 2020

Pat Kane, sustainability strategist and founder of reuzi.ie and artist and designer Caroline Duffy have channelled their love of art and sustainability into an Instagramable trend that sees artists reinvent old pieces in your closet, refreshing them with bespoke artwork or prints.

Kane came to Duffy with the idea, as she had observed a trend globally. “The idea is that we can increase the longevity of an item by giving it a 'face lift' or a new lease on life. Adding Caroline’s art to an old bag, for example, it’s a creative way to revamp and reimagine a piece. The more longevity we give an item or items the more we can divert items from ending up in landfill,” she says.

Kane gave Duffy a bag she had for over a decade which she loved but was lying in the back of her wardrobe. Adding her signature floral painting style, she created something unique, with original art work, that Kane describes as “beautiful and bespoke”.

Watch the revamp take shape

Duffy says: “It was so good to collaborate with Pat on this project and to see fashion and art through the eyes of a sustainability expert like Pat. She’s always thinking outside the box when it comes to reusing what we already have. I’m hoping others will take this opportunity to look at what they already have in their wardrobe rather than buying new. I can work with you to create the perfect custom design.”
