Sadness at Ruby Walsh’s exit is tempered by relief at seeing him get out relatively unscathed

Ruby Walsh’s greatness will be known as long as horseracing is spoken about in Ireland. On Wednesday, having won the Punchestown Gold Cup, he confirmed to himself that he was retiring before dismounting the horse and waving at the crowd in what was both his first and last goodbye.
