RTÉ looks to diaspora with international streaming

The new online ‘freemium’ TV service launched by RTÉ targets emigrants who left Ireland more than ten years ago.

RTÉ Player International, which was launched last week on iOS, offers 560 hours of free and paid-for TV content for audiences abroad.

The service primarily targets Irish people between the ages of 35 and 45 who emigrated more than a decade ago, but it is also looking at opportunities in recent emigrants in the past five to ten years. The main geographical target markets are the US, Britain, Canada and Australia.
