Many families are still drowning in mortgage debt

Almost five and a half years ago, as 2012 drew to a close, the Personal Insolvency Act was signed into law with the promise of fresh hope for the thousands of Irish people struggling with problem debt.

It took until March 2013 for the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) to be formally established, and it was September that year before the ISI began accepting applications for the new debt relief options.
