The number of mergers and acquisitions notified to the competition watchdog fell by 14 per cent last year, according to analysis of data compiled by this newspaper.

Some 67 transactions were declared in 2016 to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), which monitors mergers and takeovers.

This represents a 14 per cent decrease on the previous year, when 78 deals were reported, according to data from the authority.
