One valuable lesson from Greencore’s shock trading update last week is the need to keep an eye on short selling activity by hedge funds

Some investors have no financial training. Some have what one might call ‘relevant’ training: experience in areas that provide them with an understanding of the financial dynamics or other aspects of a business such as its structural market position, the competitive dynamics of the market sector, the value of the company’s brand equity, its production capabilities and capacity utilisation, quality control, buyer versus supplier power etc.
