European shares fall for a second day

European shares fell for a second day, hit by a fall in the share price of chemical companies BASF and Novartis after weak corporate updates from both firms.

By 09:35 a.m., London's FTSE was down 0.4 per cent, France's CAC 40 was also down 0.4 per cent while Germany's DAX shed 0.2 per cent. In Dublin, the ISEQ index of Irish shares was 0.1 per cent lower.
