Whiskey maker says proposal in Public Health (Alcohol) Bill would place a 'stigma' on Irish products
Cooley Distillery, one of Ireland’s most established whiskey makers, is warning of the consequences ofthe change in alcohol laws coming before the Dáil this week.
“On labelling, we are concerned about the potential addition of an ‘alcohol causes cancer’ label,” said Aoife Clarke of Cooley of one of the key proposals.
Medical studies have made strong links between drinking alcohol and seven types of cancer including breast, liver and bowel cancer.
